Schoolies is an incredible once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we can guarantee these memories are the ones you'll look back on for the rest of your life. But while you're making the most of your carefree week of celebrations, it's important to remember to look out for your mates and yourself. Here are some tips to make sure you and your besties thrive during the best week of your life. 💯
Supporting your mates through Schoolies and through life’s ups and downs. Spot the signs that your mate might need a helping hand:
- Increased alcohol and/or drug use, anger, aggression, irritability, crying
- Disrupted sleep, aches, and pains, declining physical health
- Risk-taking and impulsivity
- Physical illness, social isolation or withdrawal, and loneliness
Remember, warning signs can appear in all shapes and sizes.
5 tips to manage mental health and support each other during this highly exciting and stimulating time:
- Self-care; do things that make you feel good about you. e.g exercise, read, listen to music, rest.
- Don't shy away from asking how a mate is doing. See something out of the ordinary then ask the questions. Are you okay? Are you really doing okay? How can I help you?
- Listen attentively. Listen twice as much as you speak.
- Encourage them to talk about their feelings.
- If in doubt, reach out to their primary carer. Stay in touch with supports.
But most importantly - have fun and make the most of your week! Trust your gut and remember #itaintweaktospeakHaven’t booked your Schoolies yet? Rooms are selling fast so click below to lock in your spot today.Â
